November Budget - Maternity Shopping

My main purchases this month were the three pairs of J Brand maternity jeans that I picked up.  All of them have the front pockets replaced with elastic, as in the picture below.  They are really comfortable, especially for where I am at with my pregnancy.  I am hoping they still work well as I get into my third trimester, but I think they will!

I am loving the three different styles I picked out.  The length on each of them is perfect for me at 5'7'';  I didn't have to worry about getting them hemmed.
1. J Brand Mama Rail Pants,  2. J Brand Mama J Brooke Boot Cut Jeans,  3. J Brand Mama Super Skinny Pants

FYI - Gilt also has some pretty good deals on regular J Brand jeans right now - along with many other brands, including 7 for All Mankind, Current Elliott, and Hudson Jeans.

4. Tribal Clothing Poncho, 5 & 6. Belly Button Band Maternity Bands
4.  Tribal Clothing Poncho, Gigi's Boutique - $110 - I wore this in my most recent post and I love it! Perfect for pregnancy and beyond.

5 & 6.  Black and Indigo Maternity Bands, Belly Button Bands - I used a promo code to get these two bands for only the price of shipping, $12.99.  They aren't the best quality ever (I like my maternity band from Target better), but they get the job done!  Here's the promo code below:

Use Promo Code 1CEA07721 for 2 free maternity bands or 1 free body band.  Add additional maternity bands for $7 or body bands for $10.

Total Spent:  $331 - a little high but most of it was the maternity jeans which I'm really happy I got since I have worn them a bunch already. I should be keeping the rest of my shopping pretty low for the rest of my pregnancy.   Oh and I forgot to include these awesome fleece PJs that I bought at Target today for $12.  (They were cheaper in store than they are online.)  Other than adding some new tights, I think I should be in pretty good shape clothes-wise, so we'll see if I even have any purchases to make budget posts in the next few months.

Thanksgiving Poncho

The sun finally came out, but it was a little cooler so I wore my new knit poncho!  I love it because it works well for pregnancy, but will still work well afterwards.  It pretty much hides everything underneath, which is also nice for the big Thanksgiving meal.  This time I paired the oatmeal colored poncho with my bootcut maternity jeans, tan purse and ankle boots.  Since the poncho is oversized, it's best to pair it with something slimmer on bottom.  These bootcut jeans work, or in the future I'd wear it with skinny jeans and tall boots.  A comfy fall outfit!  Happy Thanksgiving!

Stripes & Texture

We're down in Hilton Head, SC this week for Thanksgiving with my in-laws.  It's been a little rainy but at least it's been warm!  We've been very casual and relaxed in our activities.  I pretty much only brought down jeans and tops for layering.  I wore this outfit for shopping and lunch in Old Town Bluffton.  We stopped in this really cute shop, Gigi's Boutique, and I picked up a really nice poncho, which is something that has been on my list for a while.  I am looking forward to sharing it on the blog soon!  I probably won't have another chance to blog so I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

J Brand Maternity Brooke Boot Cut Jeans

I am lucky to have two older sisters that were recently pregnant who generously shared their maternity clothes with me.  It was a ton of fun sorting the bags, trying on clothes and thinking about the upcoming months.  Thanks Anne & Theresa!

The one thing I did decide to get new was some pants.  I wear jeans often and have heard lots of good things about the maternity jeans from J Brand, so when I saw they were on sale at, I quickly ordered a couple pairs.  The first pair to arrive were these Mama J Brooke Boot Cut jeans, which I have been wearing tons since they arrived.  Last week (at 19 weeks) was the last week when I could wear my regular jeans without a belly band.  These jeans have been so comfy I haven't even tried the belly band again.  I can't wait until the skinny jeans I ordered arrive!  I definitely recommend J Brand maternity jeans - especially if you can find them at Gilt.  With the Gilt price plus a special 2 day 20% off coupon, I ordered 3 pairs of jeans for $200, which is about the normal price for one pair.  The jeans are really comfortable with just the right amount of stretch, a higher raise in the back and elastic panels in place of the front pockets, plus the length is perfect.  I never wore J Brand jeans in the past, but based on how much I like these maternity jeans, I will definitely be looking to add a pair or two of regular J Brands after the baby comes!

Early Pregnancy Wedding Guest Attire

Jon and I went to one of his college friend's weddings this past weekend.  Since my bump is still on the smaller side I decided to wear this faux-wrap dress rather than a maternity dress.  Overall I liked how the ruching worked with my changing figure, although I wish the waistline was a smidge higher, which especially would have been nice after I ate dinner and my bump got a little bigger.  The long sleeves were good for the fall weather and this eggplant color fit in well with the other guests.  Most of the other female guests were in various shades of blue and purple.  I picked up this cute silver evening bag at the huge new Century 21 store in Philadelphia, which went well with my pave crystal bangles and earrings. Sometimes a new clutch or piece of jewelry is a fun way to bring some new life to an outfit without getting a whole new dress! If you're newly pregnant and looking for a dress, this style is a good one to look for when you're too small for maternity clothes but still want to camouflage a baby bump or a little belly.

Since the ceremony was outside, I wore my cobalt blue wool coat which buttons up tall.  I only got this one picture below with Jon photobombing because we had to head out!

Fall Baseball Cap

baseball cap, fall outfit

There's something so fun and casual about throwing on a baseball cap.  I loved the seersucker one I wore during the summertime (see it here) and I love this two-toned gray textured hat for fall.  I found it in the boys section at Marshall's but its adjustable so it fit me too.  I paired it with an open front cardigan, a big patterned scarf, boyfriend jeans, and comfy slip-ons.  Easy outfit for a fall brunch and travel day.  The oversized scarf and cardigan combo also works well for covering up the baby bump a bit during this transition period!

Blues & Boots

So I am firmly in the second trimester of pregnancy at nearly 18 weeks!  I have been thinking about how I want to incorporate my pregnancy into the blog.  I have really enjoyed reading bumpdates from other pregnant bloggers, so I am going to start doing those weekly or every few weeks.  I think it will also be a fun way for me to look back at this special time.

I'm still mainly in my regular clothes, but I started going through some of the maternity clothes that my sisters passed down to me.  I'm kind of in the weird transition phase of pregnancy where your getting bigger but don't look obviously pregnant yet.  I've been craving longer tops, so I wore this maternity top, although I'm not in love with the fit of it on me in these pictures with all of the ruching. I like how the blue-green color paired with the mustard coat and my favorite fall boots.

Halloween 2014 + Exciting News!

Jon and I are expecting our little one in April 2015!
Here's Jon and I at my sister's annual Halloween party this weekend!  Since I'm only about 4 months, I had to embellish my baby bump a little bit for the costume.  I went as a 50s housewife and Jon went as the mailman.  It was a fun and cheeky way to incorporate the pregnancy into the holiday!  We got a few good laughs and it was an easy costume to put together.  I got the idea from Pinterest, of course!

I'm looking forward to sharing more about the pregnancy in the coming weeks!

Here's a few more Halloween snaps:

With some of my fun family including: a tourist, Cleopatra, and Dr. Who!
